The Continental Tang Soo Do Federation
Tang Soo Do belt color system

"Our belt system represents nature colors from a plum tree"

During the Winter the tree has nothing on it this would represent white belt the beginning stage.

By Spring the tree starts to flower and bud this would represent yellow and orange belt.

Then the tree continues to grow and mature the plum starts to grow and is a green color, this is green belt.

The plum  is very venerable at this stage and could either die or continue to grow and progress, this  is were most students continue to practice or stop training.

By Summer the plum turns from a green color to red, the fruit  looks like a plum but still not ready to eat, this is red belt hard trainers and willing to work hard and to help others.

By Autumn the plum turns from red to midnight blue and matured and sweet the best time to eat this is the black belt (midnight blue belt - we call black belt), when the tree has the midnight blue plum is the best time, when the black belt has the best techniques.

We do not use black color for black belt because this would mean when the plum falls from the tree and rots, to stop practicing.
